The Lost BeanTM is dedicated to delivering high quality Organic coffee and teas. It is our goal to provide a safe harbor where you can create moments of business, creativity, or simple leisure. We believe it is possible to achieve that ever delicate balance between having a successful business and working to make the world a little bit better place.

To that end, we are committed to treating our customers and team members with respect, to using Organic products whenever possible, to exercising sound, environmentally sustainable practices and to earmarking 30% of our company profits for charity. In a society that rightfully demands a balance between stress and relaxation, The Lost Bean strives to help bridge the gap between a traditional and a modern life. Whether meeting a friend, a book, or an opportunity; we hope that, like us, you think that being a little lost is not such a bad place to be.

Being The Bean:

To find the highest quality products, you first need to look at the source. Every coffee bean and tea leaf is the sum of everything that goes into growing it. The “Organic” in front of our coffees and teas means our products are certified to have been grown without the use of pesticides, herbicides, fungicides or chemical fertilizers, nor have they been genetically modified in any way.

In addition to the health benefits of not having herbicides and fungicides in your cup, Organic coffees and teas absorb all of the natural nutrients from the soil which gives them the richest,
fullest flavor possible. And as they are brewed using the finest, traditional equipment, you can be assured our baristas will take the time to craft the perfect drink.

Our steroid, antibiotic and hormone free milk comes from vegetarian cows that are free from these toxins which have been linked to cancer, and which would otherwise be expelled into their milk.

Besides offering a wide range of Organic coffee and tea drinks, home-made baked goods and a rotating menu of wraps, salads and other healthy meals for take-out or dine-in you can also call The Bean when
you’re planning a get-together in your home or office and we’ll be happy to cater to your unique needs.

If you want to pass the goodness along, we have a variety of Organic whole bean coffee (fair trade and shade grown available), over 40 Organic teas, a wide variety of coffee and tea accessories, and a collection of unique gift baskets that will delight even the most discerning of tastes.

The ‘Green’ Bean:
In addition to our Organic coffee and tea products, we believe that being a responsible member of our community and our world means supporting positive and healthy alternatives in both the products that we sell and the ways we do business.

We maintain the “green bean” by recycling everything we can, by cleaning with environmentally sensitive supplies and by ensuring that our paper products are made from as much post-consumer recyclable material as is available. Our brochures and business cards are made on 100% post-consumer recycled paper. You can identify our team members by name tags which we make from used gift cards.

Our “plastic” cups, container and utensils are made from corn and potatoes, as opposed to oil, which not only drains our precious natural resources but takes 200+ years to biodegrade. The energy we use to power our energy-efficient lighting and equipment is countered by our purchases of carbon offsets or by having trees planted to offset our carbon use.

So come sit with us and sip from our reusable mugs while reading or chatting with friends, and please let us know if there are other ways you could see us becoming a “greener” business.

Looking Forward:
The Lost Bean is not a stagnant enterprise. Just as we evolve and change as a society, so too must business. We are constantly adjusting our menu to ensure delivery of the freshest and healthiest product to your cup and plate. We also endeavor to incorporate more green and sustainable business practices as they become available and are constantly searching for new ways to improve our business, our lives and our community. Thank you for helping us to achieve our goals.

Bodie Berg
Bodie received his B. A. and his espresso addiction from the University of Oregon in 1996. After graduation, he moved to Paris where he worked in a Tex-Mex restaurant and learned to make what many people still consider the best tacos in France. (They may also be the only tacos in France, so it is a pretty low bar to jump over). Upon returning to the United States in 1997, Bodie borrowed some money from Visa and began day-trading stocks, knowing that if it didn't work out he could always move back home and make tacos until the debt was paid back. Luckily for everyone, he was not forced to release his tacos upon North America.

In addition to continuing to day-trade, Bodie's work-life consists of being a co-founder and managing partner of Alert Generator LLC, a software development company that specializes in electronic trading strategies.

Bodie's passion for espresso and sustainable business lead him to co-found The Lost Bean with his long-time friend, Zeke Covarrubias. In his free time, Bodie enjoys thinking about ways to make the world a little bit greener; surfing, practicing yoga, reading, and traveling with his wife and new baby.

Zeke Covarrubias
A Northern California native, Zeke inherited his mother's entrepreneurial spirit and her Texas twang. While studying to enter the world of finance, he paid the bills by managing stores for two of the largest coffee chains. After a few years of tireless study and corporate life, Zeke migrated to Southern California where he focused on market-neutral trading strategies within the semiconductor sector. As he successfully progressed in his career, he became involved in training beginning traders on varying market approaches. He was then offered an Equity Partner role in the Yogurt Mill which took him back to Northern California.

In this capacity, he was able to benefit from the more than 20 years of restaurant experience of Yogurt Mill founder, Larry Young. This invaluable finance and restaurant training allowed Zeke to bring his expertise to a consulting practice which specialized in helping turn restaurant ideas into reality. It is Zeke’s business-consulting experience that laid the foundation for an entrepreneurial activity of his own.

Earlier in his trading career, Zeke had met Bodie Berg, another entrepreneurial spirit and his future business partner. Together, they have created a unique café experience that brings together genuine taste and Organic health.

Some of Zeke's hobbies include architecture, interior design, mixed martial arts,
rock climbing, guitar, drums, motocross, and watching the same movies repeatedly.
